Maxine Hildebrandt is of Cree/Métis descent and is an enrolled member of the Pelican Lake First Nation. She is a teacher at Mother Earth’s Children’s Charter School, Canada’s first and only Indigenous charter school, near Devon, Alberta. Lisl Gunderman has taught for more than twenty-five years at Wildwood School in Wildwood, Alberta.

They are recipients of the 2018 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Teaching.
