My project is about the Bluebird Nurses, Canadian military nurses who served during World War I. The key people were the nursing sisters who cared for wounded and sick soldiers in hospitals, on ships, and near battlefields. They worked in dangerous conditions and often risked their own lives. The main events included treating injured soldiers, fighting disease, and supporting the war effort overseas. My final response is that the Bluebird Nurses helped Canada during World War I by caring for wounded soldiers, saving lives, and supporting the war effort. Their bravery and dedication left a lasting impact on Canadian history and helped pave the way for women's rights.

What sources and evidence did you consult for your project? What different perspectives did they provide on your topic?

For my project, I used different websites that had provided facts about their duties, experiences, and contributions to Canada's war effort. Some websites were about medical care they provided, the challenges and dangers and what their lives had been like. These perspectives helped me understand who they were and why they needed to be talked about and given more recognition.

What is the historical significance of your topic?

The Bluebird Nurses were historically significant because of their vital role in caring for wounded soldiers during World War I. In the short term they had helped save many lives, treat injuries, and treat soldiers. In the long term, their service helped advance the nursing profession and expanded opportunities for women in healthcare and public service. Their dedication and sacrifice changed how people viewed women's contributions and left a lasting impact on Canadian history.

Why did you choose this topic?

I chose this topic because when I first heard about Bluebird Nurses was at my social studies class at school. My teacher talked about these women and what they did and how not many people even knew who they were or what they've done for many people. I thought that these nurses needed more recognition too so I decided to do my project on them.
