Exploring the "Art of the Deal"

Since the Fathers of Confederation came together to strike a deal to create Confederation in 1867, there have been many key moments in business history.

The business sectors — from agriculture to forestry and manufacturing and beyond — have helped shape Canada, and its place in the world.

On September 11–12, a national conference, co-presented by Canada’s History Society, will highlight 150 Years of Canadian Business, presented in conjunction with Canada’s sesquicentennial birthday celebrations. The conference, organized by the Canadian Business History Association, is multi-disciplinary and open to participation by academics, business leaders, professional archivists and the public.

The conference boasts an impressive array of presenters, including keynote speakers, including Robert McIntosh, Director-General, Library & Archives Canada; Jim Leech, Former Chief Executive Officer, Ontario Teachers Pension Plan; and Mr. Perrin Beatty, President & CEO, The Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

The conference’s presenters will explore a host of topics, including Regions and Provinces in Canada’s Business History; The Role of Women in Canadian Business History; and 150 Years of Financial History.

The conference will take place at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
