Transcontinental Railway

Presented on the Transcontinental Railway and why it was important to Canada, how it affected people (Indigenous people and Chinese Railway workers) in different areas across Canada and how it made Canada become a country.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

When I saw the old video of how they were putting down the railway ties and track I didn't know it was that much hard work. It was amazing to see the big steram engine pushing the train cars while they were putting down the tracks ahead. They also didn't have safety clothes on or safety equipment around them either!

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

When they put down the railway across Canada it affected many different people in different areas across Canada.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I know that today it is easier to do hard work because we have machines that help us when we do heavy work. Back in the old days they had to find ways to make the work easier. Today we have laws that protect us from dangerous work, they didn't have that kind of law in the old days.
