Virtual Historical Thinking Institute
Winter 2025 Virtual Historical Thinking Institute (VHTI)
Connect with educators from throughout Canada for an engaging professional development series that will:
Deepen your understanding of historical thinking.
Provide you with new ideas and inspiration for designing effective lessons, activities, or resources.
Help you incorporate more inquiry-based learning into your work.
Provide you with confidence to take your teaching to the next level!
The VHTI consists of 7 online sessions from January – April.
In each workshop, presenters will use relevant examples to introduce and illustrate key aspects of historical thinking concepts and share resources and learning activities for teaching and assessing historical thinking. Participants will be invited to join breakout rooms with other participants where they will share experiences, deepen their understanding of key concepts, generate new ideas for teaching and assessing historical thinking, and discuss important issues and challenges.
Each workshop will also feature a presentation from a guest speaker, including history educators, historians, museum professionals, and teachers, who will share theoretical insights, practical ideas, and new questions about the historical thinking concept being investigated.
"One of the best parts of the course were the connections made with other educators and learning about their approaches." - Past VHTI Participant
