Lost History in St. George
An antique map led to the discovery of a missing grave marker. Which began the journey to discover a businessman who's works of art went across Canada and USA. He was not remembered but was meant to be forgotten. What happened?
What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?
I didn't know that there are pieces of my town all over Canada and the United States. Granite from St. George is in so many famous places!
What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?
It was amazing that millions of people have seen his work, he was very rich and important but people were angry at him and they made sure who was forgotten. People's lives were very hard and there were not a lot of laws to protect them like there are today.
How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?
Money isn't everything. If he had been nicer and realized that he could have helped people instead of making himself richer, perhaps he would have been remembered.
