What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

That Anne of Green Gables is the first fictional Canadian novel to have the main character being a female. At that time being a female writer wasn't exactly the 'right' thing. But to have a woman write a book with her main character being a girl was definitely considered wrong. Especially since Anne was a huge feminist, probably the biggest feminist of her time. And Lucy Maud Montgomery did not like to be mistreated because of her gender.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Anne overcame lots of roadblocks and speed-bumps in her life with a huge smile on her face. That is something that we all need to learn to do. At that age, Anne had a loud voice and a gigantic opinion and she wasn't afraid to speak it. now, with all of these problems going on people aren't exactly speaking up to others; we should all learn from Anne's actions since it'll help with shaping the future.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

If Anne was alive now, her whole story would be different; she wouldn't be fighting for friends out in the real world, she probably would be fighting for friends on social media, like most of us are doing nowadays. Now, we have cellphones and internet and all sorts of technology that people live off of, but then people didn't have that sort of technology, they had the post instead of email, carriages instead of cars, they had telephones while now we have cellphones, they had to walk to the nearest town just to get something that they wanted-like puffed sleeves-while we can just go onto Amazon or E-Bay. I have been blessed with having family and friends all over the world, while Anne didn't have any of that to start with. Since then, the world has improved with the way that they see genders and people in general. For example: Anne was adopted by the Cuthbert's who wanted a boy to help with the farm, not a girl because at the time girls weren't supposed to do anything but home-chores. But now, most people don't mind if they get a girl or a boy, no one will stop a girl from getting her hands dirty and no one will stop a boy from sewing.
