The History of The Canadian Flag

My project is about the History of The Canadian Flag and I go over who the prime minister and what party they belonged to at that time, who designed the Canadian Flag, why this design was chosen, how the competition worked, dates of when all of these events happened, and what flags Canada would use before the National Flag of Canada. Within my video I also have a story from one of my good neighbors of how getting a National Flag for Canada affected their life.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned about my topic was how Canada kept on going back and forth from the Royal Union Flag and the Canadian Red Ensign before the National Flag of Canada. I also found it interesting that Canada did not get a National Flag until 1965 because before I started researching about this topic I thought Canada had the National Flag since the late 1800s and early 1900s.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that it is very hard for many people to come down to a decision because there are so many opinions. Also how it it very important for everyone to listen to each others opinions while making a decision. Finally, it is very important to compromise because while Canada was trying to get a National Flag many people disagreed or had to compromise on a design, but when the Flag was done most Canadians liked the National Flag.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I think the lives of people then compared to my life was pretty similar, but my life compared to their life with my topic is very different. It's different because I grew up with always having one National Flag which is the Canadian Flag, but people then grew up switching back and forth from the Royal Union Flag and the Canadian Red Ensign until the Canadian Flag was officially Th eNational Flag of Canada.
