Cruising the Past

My project is about Samuel Cunard's family heritage and his incredible contribution to Prince Edward Island, the Maritimes, Canada and the World. He is my great great great great grandfather.  Nicknamed the Steam Lion, he built the Transatlantic railroad.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned in my project was that my family has many very interesting people in it. They did lots of important things for shipping, transportation, military, agriculture, fishing and more.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

That Samuel Cunard has a very important impact on PEI, The Marimes, Canada and the world and that the rest of his family took a big part on PEI, The Maritimes, Canada and the World. We can all do the same but only if we try hard enough.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

They had a much harder life than the people today because they had to go across the Atlantic in wooden sail boats in the middle of the winter and it would take about two weeks or more to go across the Atlantic when it only takes a few hours today.
