Joshua Slocum
Joshua Slocum was a Nova Scotia born man, born in Mount Hanley. He is famously know for being the fist man to solo circumnavigate the world.
What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?
I learned that most sailors back in the 1800s couldn't swim. This was surprising because if you fell over board, there wasn't any life jackets so you would drown.
What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?
I have learned that Canada's history is important and if no one recognizes it we will eventually lose all history.
How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?
Today it would be a lot easier to complete this task. The technology is more advanced along with maps and boats.
