The Royal Canadian Engineers at Juno Beach

My project describes the jobs and tools of the Royal Canadian Engineers on D-Day. I show the important part that the RCE played in the success of the invasion of France in 1944.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

D-day was not just running onto the beaches shooting guns and the army needed engineers to be successful. The fortifications on the beaches were well thought through. Flail tanks are cool.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that talking about history is telling a story. Canadians have played important parts in historic events. I also learned that to finish a history project you just need to keep working at it.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I can't really, because the soldiers and engineers were all older than me. But I am glad that I am not living in a time of a big war.
