Let's Go to the Fair!
From cattle to crops to baking, competitions and all kinds of fun, the fall fair (okay, it might be in the summer!) has been a big deal in much of Canada for centuries.
While they were often sidelined, Indigenous people presented their culture on their own terms at Saskatchewan’s Pion-Era starting in the 1950s. And there are other important events like the Calgary Stampede and the International Plowing Match that celebrate the business and craft of farming.
You’ll meet Howard Dill, the Nova Scotia man behind the world’s biggest pumpkins, discover the midway and maybe be inspired to enter the fair yourself. Check out the blue-ribbon November issue of Kayak!
