Halifax Wrecked Africville

In this project, we talk about how the Halifax Explosion affected the lives of a village named Africville and how they were discriminated against and ignored in Canadian history.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing that I've learned from my topic is how a small inconvenience cause such a big disaster. For example, if the SS Imo just waited for SS Mont-Blanc to pass by, the explosion could have been preventable which is something that fascinates me.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

An important lesson that I've learned that I want to share with other Canadians is that don't judge people because they might look different than you.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

In comparing my day-to-day life to the lives of those I've learned about in Africville, I realize that I am much safer and more comfortable, given that I have access to the necessities I need. For example, the people in Africville barely had safe drinking water.
