Hutterites

My heritage fair project is all about Hutterites and my grandpas story as once being a Hutterite. I share basic information about colonys and talk about my Grandpas story.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

Some of the most interesting things I learned was that men grow beards to show they are married, how many colony are around where i live and the three different kinds of Hutterites. There is so much information on Hutterites, but some is only True for certain Colonys. They all are slightly different. I got most of my information from just speaking to hutterites, and reading Mary-Ann Kirby's book "I am Hutterite"

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I want other Canadians to know more about Hutterites because I feel like, as a Canadian there is a lot of judging towards them. most people don't know the truth about Hutterites. Also they are a people who live in our country just like all of us.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Hutterite Colonys have changed a lot over the years. They sill believe and study the same beliefs but some of there rules have changed over time. Huterites live a different lifestyle then we do. They do not rely on Technology and buying things from stores. they provide everything they can for themselves on the colony. I would say our lives are very different then theirs, we have more independence, if we live a better life he Hutterites would depend who you talk to.
