Vimy Ridge

This project is all about what happened at the battle of Vimy Ridge, and how it helped to define Canada as a nation, with special significance given to the 100th anniversary of the battle and Canada’s 150th anniversary.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

How William Johnstone Milne captured two guns from the enemy troops. He won the Victoria Cross for that. Its the highest honour you can get in the British Commonwealth. He lived in Moose Jaw, which is where I live.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

That how just in my home town, a man won the Victoria Cross. How it was so important to our nation when the Canadians won. How there are so many other things about the battle that no one knows about.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I live in a safe living condition and environment. I don't have guns shooting around or at me. I have freedom to go anywhere I like. The people that studied in my project probably didn't.
