Sam Johnston

My project is about our Elder, Sam Johnston. He is a role model in our community and an excellent storyteller. You will see the humorous story about a bear and a man running down a hill. Hope you enjoy.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I learned that respect is very important. You need to be respectful towards your interviewee, your audience, and yourself during the interview process.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

What I learned was we should respect the person we are filming. Your focus is the person you are interviewing and we should listen and learn from the information they are sharing. The information you are filming is not only for others, but it is also for you to learn from.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Today, we have a lot technology to save, capture, observe and share stories. In Sam's day, he was told a story and he would capture, observe and share it (his stories) by retelling it through story telling.
