Women's Fight for Franchise

The astounding history of women's fight for the vote explained. Watch to see how these people shaped our country into what it is today.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The surprisingly short time since women received the vote. I hoped it would have been longer than it was.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Just how difficult it really was for women to get the vote. They deserved their right, and it was withheld because many felt they were inferior to men. It's inexcusable they had to prove themselves for something that is a basic human right.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I am eternally grateful for the work put into women's vote in Canada. Without these fearless, resolute people involved in the fight, our country would not be the same it is today. We all have it much simpler than those I studied; they had no easy life.
