First Nations' History

I want everyone to know the true history of my people and what they went through. My people have suffered greatly over the years and I believe that people in Canada deserve to know what the government has hid from them. The true history of the First Nations people in Canada.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I learned a lot about the War of 1812 and how so many First Nations people helped the British against the Americans. I also learned that the First Nations People who fought during the War of 1812 were my ancestors. I found this out as I was doing my research for my Heritage Fair project at my school which I am very proud of.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned a lot about schools that were purposely made for First Nation children called Residential schools. I believe it is important for people to know the history of our country. People should be aware of what Residential Schools were and the mistake that the government made in opening them. People deserve to know the truth about the government and the mistakes they have made.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I would say my life is very different to a child that went to residential schools because I decide what school I go to, I get to live my life the way I want, and I think that the children in Residential Schools didn't even get to say goodbye to their families. They just took them like they didn't even matter to them at all. I am very thankful that I have the right to choose all these things like my future, my school, and my family.I believe that people have the right to know about all the bad history that our government hid from us all these year like we didn't deserve to know.
