Gardiner Dam

A project on the construction and operation of the hydroelectric dam on Lake Diefenbaker.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I was very interested in how this project helps to reduce the carbon footprint that we leave, because of the hydroelectric power produced.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that the Gardiner Dam was a very big project and opened up a lot of opportunities for the people living around the area. There was a lot of money spent, but it was built very well. It is still structurally sound to this day, nearly sixty years later.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Before the dam was there, there was just a river and today there is a lake, which people can now use for things such as irrigation, recreation, and career opportunities
