The Importance of Stories

In my project, I express the importance of stories. I believe that storytellers are the basis of many communities, and we must not let electronics interfere with the important messages that stories give. I would like to encourage others to share stories as well.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned was, years ago, a child's entertainment would be walking to an elderly neighbour's house and listening to spooky stories. After that, they would join their friends to walk home in the dark. This is part of the reason why so many stories are still shared.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

There is more to life than iPhones: Everyone has a story that we must cherish. Just stop and listen.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Today, even the smartest people get distracted by silly things. Before all of these distractions existed, people would take the time to talk to each other. Stories that have withstood the test of time for centuries may soon cease to exist.
