Stratford Festival

My project is on the Stratford Festival and its contribution to Canadian Theatre. It will describe how the Festival was started and how it has grown to the present day.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned about Stratford Festival was how quickly it became popular. Their intended four week run of plays in the first season was extended to six. The demand for tickets was so incredible.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

With hard work and dedication, dreams can come true. From the time that Tom Patterson, the founder of Stratford festival, was a teenager, he had always thought that Stratford should become a cultural destination. When Stratford railway industry closed, there was nothing left for it. With Tom's amazing idea, it put Stratford on the map.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

If I was trying to start a festival today, it would be a lot easier to advertise, to use computers for resources and marketing in general, worldwide.
