L'Anse Aux Meadows
My project is on the pre-Columbian Viking settlement L'Anse Aux Meadows. A Viking settlement found on the North end of Newfoundland.
What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?
How many buildings were found. It makes me wonder more about what happened that they could not make it work.
What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?
Sometimes stories can be true. Just because it was a story passed down, and not documented in written history right away, does not mean it may not have really happened.
How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?
We are not new to Canada, we know what the weather is going to be and what the wildlife is. We have the technology to write or call home if we move somewhere. These people did not. It was probably very scary and weird.
