The Fur Trade

My project is about the Fur Trade. It is about how the First Nations traded with the Europeans in early Canada. They used beavers to make fashionable hats that were popular in Europe.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I loved learning how to use iMovie. It was also fun to make stop-motion scenes with plasticine. I am interested that the beaver hat was so popular with the Europeans.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

The French and later the English traded with the First Nations people to get beaver fur. They used the beaver fur to make hats for the rich people in Europe. The First Nations had to travel a very long way to give the furs to the Europeans. The First Nations had to trap the beavers. The Europeans got rich with the Fur Trade.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Our life today is very different because we use technology. Today we do not have to live on the land or work hard outside. We do not have to suffer through hard winters any more, we have heated homes.
