What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I was very interested in the Navy, particularly in it's structure and how they make decisions during difficult and serious circumstances. I also found the boats very interesting during that time period, especially how much less infantry there was then than there is today.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that you can overcome barriers even if you are disrespected for having a different skin colour. As well, I learned that even though you do not have a wealthy family, you are still able to fulfill important roles both in the Navy and in every day life.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Our lives were very different, and they had many more hardships in their everyday lifestyle than we do today. I also learned that having a different skin colour used to be thought of as a very negative thing, but now we respect diversity.
