History of P.E.I. Railway

My project is about the history of the Prince Edward Island railway. I have always been interested in the railway system and why it no longer operates on Prince Edward Island. The railway system really made a difference in the history of P.E.I., with out it P.E.I. may not have chosen to join Canada.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I learned that the railway system changed history and changed transportation for the Islanders. I also learned that without the railway we may not have joined Confederation.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that there is a lot of research involved in heritage fair projects. There are many resources available like museums, libraries and online documents. I now know that it is important to site where I got information from about the history of the railway on P.E.I.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

We are able to travel fast and far compared with islanders living at the time that the railway was built. Cars, transport trucks, recreational vehicles and planes have made it possible to travel almost anywhere. Unlike people living in the 17-1800's we can easily connect with our neighbors and friends and there are more resources around like grocery stores in most towns.
