McGill War Poster Collection
McGill University’s Canadian War Poster Collection contains 250 posters from both World Wars, all of which are viewable online. These posters — used widely to recruit for the armed forces, sell war bonds and encourage productivity on the home front — are now a valuable historical source for understanding and illustrating Canadian society during wartime. The posters are organized into categories based on their original function and are accompanied by a short introductory essay providing a history and overview of the posters. Students can analyze the examples on the website and even try designing their own poster.
