On September 28, 1972, thousands of Canadians tuned in to their televisions and radios to bear witness to the most important hockey game in Canada’s history — the eighth and deciding game in the Canada-Russia Summit Series.

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of that famous hockey series, Canada’s History caught up with television broadcaster and CBC icon Don Newman and asked him to share his personal memories of Paul Henderson’s series-winning goal in Moscow.

In September 2012, Canada's History began a petition to have Paul Henderson inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. You can help by signing the petition; the deadline is October 5, 2012.
