Banff is one of the world’s oldest national parks and from the first its history has been one of conflict between conservationists and developers. Back in the 1990s, there was even talk that it would lost its national park status if steps weren’t taken to preserve it.

Historian Ted Hart was the mayor of the town of Banff during that time. Listen to his interview with Canada’s History editor Nelle Oosterom above. (Seven minutes, 47 seconds).
