Canadian Sports History

Canada has hosted many major sports events, from Olympic to Pan-American and Commonwealth games, World Cup events, and all manner of other races and competitions. We’ve had our share of heroes, and even a few controversies along the way.

Canadian athletes have excelled at both professional and amateur sports. But there’s one sport that captures the national imagination more than any other — and which consistently attracts the attention of history writers and publishers. If there were a gold medal for Canadian sports history publishing, it would year after year be awarded to ice hockey.

In the listings below, you’ll find books on many aspects of hockey history as well as a selection of recently published books about other sports that have fascinated and entertained Canadians. Please check back for updates, and let us know about other titles you think should be added to our list!
